One year ago, our plane touched down. HOME. Four letters never meant so much. What is Gotcha Day? This is the day your child is forever yours. Some adoptive parents get to celebrate this day on the same day they meet their child. Russian adoptions are a little different. So, Russian adoptive parents celebrate it on the day that feels right to them. Some parents celebrate on the day they meet their child, some celebrate on their court date, some celebrate it the day they carry their child from the orphanage, and some the day they are home. For us, we will celebrate the day she came home because it wasn’t until then did she truly feel like ours. She was a US citizen and on our turf. No one could take her from us!
This was a very emotional time. As I look back now, I can see the fear in her eyes. She was smiling, but her eyes were screaming. We have had many ups and downs, but she has developed beyond our imagination. She is amazing. She speaks English almost as well as the average child her age…this alone blows me away. She has grown over 4 inches in one short year and gone from 9 month sized clothing to 24 month. She loves her big brothers and will follow them anywhere…hence all the bumps and bruises, LOL! She is a beautiful gift from God and I cannot imagine our lives without her.
